Do I need a water softener or reverse osmosis?
One job is feel & scale (hardness). The other is drinking purity at a faucet. Many homes end up with both for different reasons—not one box that does everything.
Softener: Essential if you have white scale on faucets and soap that will not lather.
RO: For drinking/cooking when you want higher purity—not a house-wide scale cure alone.
Softener reduces hardness scale in heaters and fixtures.
RO focuses on the faucet you drink from.
Salt systems have ongoing salt; RO has filter changes.
Soft water changes feel (soap, spots)—not a medical claim.
